The field for one of the premier early-season events of the collegiate season has been announced. On Thursday, ESPN unveiled the 11 teams that will attend the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational, running February 18–21.
Notably, the reigning national runner-up, Texas Tech, headlines the group, along with fellow Big 12 teams Oklahoma State and UCF, both coming off Super Regional appearances. South Carolina and Texas A&M represent the SEC in 2027. Three of the ACC's heavy hitters — Clemson, Florida State and Virginia Tech — will be part of the tournament at the Eddie C. Moore Complex. Washington is the lone representative from the Big Ten, making the cross-country trek. Mid-majors East Carolina and Liberty round out the field.
There have typically been 16 teams at the event, which makes for fewer games this year. However, with multiple teams from premier conferences involved, there's still a good chance of a jam-packed slate of games.
For example, Texas Tech, which lacked quality non-conference games last season, could face Florida State, Texas A&M and South Carolina — teams they've all played over the past two seasons — in addition to Clemson, Virginia Tech or Washington, assuming there won't be intraconference matchups.
