Are we shocked that Georgina Corrick and Lexi Kilfoyl were locked into another pitchers’ duel? The two aces stole the show on Saturday, but Corrick was a tad better as the Talons won 2-1.
Corrick, who allowed one run on four hits, didn’t face much danger. Chicago only had six at-bats with runners on the entire game. Even the four hits; three of them didn’t leave the infield. Bella Dayton led off the third inning with an infield single. After Corrick hit two batters to load the bases, Morgan Zerkle lifted a sacrifice fly to tie the game.
The Bandits had an early chance against Corrick. Zerkle and Skylar Wallace collected a pair of singles to put two on. Mac Barbara lined a ball to shallow center field. Jayda Coleman raced it down and made a leaping throw to double off Wallace at second to end the threat.
Corrick was locked in after Chicago scored. After the sacrifice fly, she retired 13 of the last 14 batters of the game, finishing with five strikeouts.
Utah cashed in on its first-inning scoring opportunity. Jadelyn Allchin was hit by a pitch and moved over to second base with two outs. Sharlize Palacios was able to get enough of the Kilfoyl pitch to drop it into left field for an RBI single.
The same pairing got the sixth-inning rally going as well. Allchin led off the inning with a single and moved over on a sacrifice bunt. Palacios lined a ball off the top of the wall in left field, but Allchin didn’t get a good read on it and had to stay at third. Chicago intentionally walked Bri Ellis to load the bases. Sahvanna Jaquish put a Kilfoyl pitch into the air in center, scoring Allchin on a sacrifice fly for the late lead.
The Talons will try to secure their second straight championship on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN. AUSL Pitcher of the Year Montana Fouts will go for Utah, facing Chicago’s Kat Sandercock.
