It didn't take long for the bells to ring on September 1. Georgia made a huge splash on the first day of the Class of 2028 recruiting window. The Bulldogs nabbed a commitment from in-state prospect and five-star outfielder Peyton Ushery.
"Georgia was an easy choice. Being close to home and my family means more to me now than ever, and seeing their coaches at so many of my games showed me they were genuinely interested," Ushery told Softball America. "When we finally talked, they made it clear they believed in me and felt I could help their program. My dad was born and raised in Atlanta and loved all the Georgia teams, so I feel like the University of Georgia represents him in so many ways — that makes this even more special."
Ushery is rated as the 15th overall player, the third-best outfielder, and the top-ranked player from the state of Georgia. Ushery attends Lassiter High School and recently transitioned to the Athletics Gold Tamborra roster after spending time in the Georgia Impact and Armor Elite organizations.
Ushery showed elite skill on both sides of the ball throughout the summer, pairing a plus arm with the range to cover serious ground in the outfield. Her first-step reads are sharp, and she tracks balls well going back. At the plate, she flashed plus power to go with above-average speed — the complete package for an outfielder at the next level. She certainly fits the mold of recent Georgia outfielders.
