Another big-time arm is headed to Chicago. Four-star pitcher Leona Eichholz announced her commitment to Northwestern on Wednesday.
Eichholz, an Illinois native, has the build of a workhorse and the command to match. The Wisconsin Lightning righty moves the ball up and down the zone with ease, and her best weapon is a drop that fades away from right-handed hitters, where she generates her highest whiff rate. She leans on firm arm-side fastballs to establish herself, then mixes in off-speed pitches at the right moments, steering hitters toward strikeouts down and away.
Northwestern also holds verbals from London Lefler, an athletic outfielder from Explosion organization in California, and Marin Aman, a utilty who recently joined the Beverly Bandits organization.
